WATER, WATER, EVERYWHERE...
Kristie’s Nutrition Corner
By: Kristie Koerner

It sure is getting hot outside! Are you drinking enough water? Adequate
intake of water prevents dehydration, works to cleanse the body, and can help
to control weight. Water makes up about 78% of body weight at birth, 65% as
an infant, and 55% or more for overweight adults.

Individual needs depend on body weight, activity level, and climate. As
an estimate, to determine how much water you need, divide your weight (in
pounds) by two. That number equals how many ounces of water you should
drink. Remember, there are 8 ounces in 1 cup.

Tips to increase water intake:

1)Carry a glass or aluminum water bottle with you, everywhere: in your purse,
at your desk, in your car, by your bed...Check out these cute water bottles at
Target.com!

2)Drink water before, with, and after each meal to prevent overeating.

3)Drink 8 ounces of water for every 20 minutes of vigorous exercise you
complete, whether it be walking, running, biking, swimming...

4)If you drink alcohol, consume an equal amount of water.

5)When traveling on an airplane, drink 8 ounces of water for every hour on
board the plane.

6)Add citrus fruits (lemons, limes), cucumber slices, or mint to your water.
Drink herbal teas, seltzer water, or sugar free mixes like Crystal Light, Body
By Vi ViTrim Clear Control or ViSalus NEURO Smart Energy.

7)Eat foods that are water rich, such as watermelon (92% water by weight),
tomato (95% water), egg (74% water).

8)Keep water cold if it tastes better to you. Your body uses energy to regulate
temperature, so you burn a few extra calories in doing so. But if
dehydrated, room temperature water is best absorbed.

*WARNING: It is possible to "overdose" on water. Electrolytes in the body become
dilute and individual cells can burst. During very heavy, prolonged exercise
(marathon), drink 3 glasses of water for every one glass of a sports drink.
